“You are all beautiful, important, and worthy of being crowned!”
About the Show
Unexpected Crowns is a two women play that explores the often times over looked dignity of women and the unexpected crowns they wear whether it's a first time mom baseball cap, red hats for the Red Hat society, prom queen tiaras, a bridal veil, or graduation cap. The show is fast paced, funny, and endearing. Karah Britton & Christin Jezak play a total of 15 zany characters in the show that represent women of all different age groups and backgrounds.
Meet Some of Our Royal Court
When the audience enters, there are two tables with regal table clothes and pillows on the stage. On top of each pillow, there is a hat from each of the characters. At the top of the show, Grace and Esther, two elderly women of the red hat society, enter and set the premise of the show posing the question: "Do you all feel worthy of being crowned?" From there the audience witnesses a college fashion show that depicts the exploration of the college years; a prom queen in a bathroom that prepares her acceptance speech, while a wallflower loudly wails in a stall and their unlikely encounter; a stand up comedy routine commenting on Karah's dating life; two ladies with attitude from South Boston who know who they are and own it; a maid honor who has to act more like the Crocodile Hunter in order to tame her Bridezoola; Christin's Gospel Revival testimonial; and finally a lamaze class and a mom who is wearing way too many hats! This all leads to the final moment of the show where we have a coronation with the audience. Find more info on the Facebook page and Instagram @unexpectedcrowns
